In various types of applications, sometimes when I place the cursor
in the content area by clicking in the area, and then beginning to
type, I then find that somehow the focus is somewhere on
the menu bar instead. So when I try to type, instead of actually typing,
I end of issuing menu commands instead. As you might imagine,
this is totally crazy. What's more, it occurs completely randomly,
at least I don't see a pattern. I then have to re-click in the content
area and then hit space-bar a couple of times to actually get
the focus to where it should be.
I've heard from other people with the same problem, but so
far, no solution. I've already tried changing some keyboard
and mouse timing settings to little avail - well these changes might have
helped
a bit, but it still happens, though perhaps less frequently. I've run these
same apps,
which are popular MS ones like Office, for several years on various
types of Windows and never seen anything like this, not even once,
except on XP.
My System is a Dell 2.53 GHz/512DRAM, and XP is fully
updated with SP1 etc. I'm using an old Win keyboard,
about 5 years old, though it works perfectly on other
Windows. A friend of mine has the same problem
on a new Sony laptop, which of course has a new
keyboard. So I believe the problem lies with XP itself.
I suspect a timing/windows message event bug in XP.
