Fly in text (animation) all messed up

Guest

I have translated a 90 page powerpoint presentation that was created in
Powerpoint 2002.
When I received the file it was in slide show format. Everytime you pressed
a button text would fly in from the left at each bullet point.

I translated the text in Powerpoint 2000 and after I was finished I saved it
as a PPS file again.

The slide show works fine in Powerpoint 2000 and 2003 but not in 2002. In
2002 the text slides in at the wrong place and not at the bullets. It has
done this on every page.
What is going wrong and what can I do?

Hi,

Try reapplying the Slide Layout. Click on Format, Slide Layout, choose the
correct layout.

Hi Thanks PPTMagician

That worked with some of the slides but not all. Some of the ones where it
didn't work had a "text layout" and updating it didn't help and the others
have a blank "Content layout"

What can I do?

I can't quite figure out why the animation would work in PPT 2000 and 2003,
but not in 2002. That's very odd.

See, PPT got a new animation model in PPT 2002. That same model is used in
PPT 2003. PPT 2000 has an old animation model.

So it's weird that the animations work in the old model and the 2003 new
model, but they don't work in the 2002 new model (which is the same as the
2003 new model).

I wonder if it's a case of new animations capabilities being turned off in
PPT 2003. Assuming that you have 2003 available, go to Tools/Options and on
the Edit tab, see if "new animation effects" is checked. If it is, and if
you uncheck it, that should "break" things in 2003 as well. :) The
corollary, of course, is that checking that option in 2002 should fix it.

Anyway, which versions of PPT can you check this file in? I'd like to know
what you see if you right-click a text placeholder and choose custom
animation in PPT 2003. And then I'd like to know what happens if you do that
in PPT 2002.

Also, can you clarify what you mean by "In 2002 the text slides in at the
wrong place and not at the bullets"? Do you mean that it's a placement
issue? The text itself isn't in the right place? Assuming that PPT 2000,
2002 and 2003 are all on different computers and not installed on the same
system, that could indicate a font issue -- if fonts are missing on the 2002
machine, PPT is substituting with a different font. Go to Format/Replace
Fonts on the 2002 machine. Do you see ?? beside any of the fonts listed
there?

Hi,

Nope, none of your ideas worked. I really don't understand it.
The only way I can get it to work again is to delete the old fly in and set
it again.

What is the quickest way to apply fly in from left to all bullet points on
page?

Use an animation scheme, or apply the animation to the placeholder on the
master slide.

Can't give you much more info than that, as you haven't given us much more
info to work with.

I can see from the VBA editor help that there is a scrip that goes:

ppEffectFlyFromLeft

But how do I get it to only apply to the selected paragraph or bullet?

But how do I get it to only apply to the selected paragraph or bullet?

Manually or, since you mention VBA, via code?

In any case, I think you can only apply effects to the whole text block, not
individual paragraphs.

You can create multiple text blocks, one paragraph each, and apply effects
individually to them, though.
