I make a floppy with my 98 computer- the ME one reads it and the XP one
wants to format it. IN FAT! Which it is already!

I make a floppy in Fat on the XP machine and the ME and 98 machines want to
format it. What's up with this?

There is no incompatibility between a floppy created on one
Windows operating system and another. They all use FAT12 and
should work in exactly the same way.

Sounds like a distinct possibility is that the floppy drive on
the XP machine is aligned differently from the drives on the Me
and 98 machines. Each therefore sees the diskette formatted on
the other as not formatted.
