Floppy Drive

I just installed a new floppy drive into my desktop computer and it says the
device is working properly in Device Manager, but it doesn't recognize any
floppy discs that I put into it. It says to put a disc in the drive when
there is already one in there. Also when I go to My Computer and right click
on the floppy drive (A drive) it says no space used or no space free on the
floppy. It ejects the floppy disc though, when one is placed into the drive.
I'm lost right now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks, Daniel

Anotherwords, the drive shows up but it doesn't recognize any floppy discs
that I put into it. Why wouldn't it know that there is a disc in it if it
ejects the disc properly? I don't think it's the jumper? Why would it be a
jumper? Well, I will listen to someone's answer.
Thanks, Daniel

Try booting your computer from a bootable DOS floppy. If it works,
then the floppy hardware is good.
