Floppy Drive trouble

D

Dave

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with my Sony floppy disk drive. It seems to be
software related and not mechanical. When I acces a file on a floppy the
drive runs on for a minute or two after the file loads. Also if I copy a
file from the floppy to the hard drive the floppy drive runs whenever I
access the file. Sometimes the floppy drive runs whenever I open a file in
Notepad.

I'm considering uninstalling the drivers for the floppy controller and the
floppy drive, in Device Manager. I'm currently using Microsoft drivers for
both, dated 2001. Intel has drivers on their web site for my motherboard but
none for the drive or controller.
I'll be looking for a controller driver on the Intel installer CD, and
fiddling with the BIOS.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions............Dave

My configuration:
Homebuilt PC
Intel D845PESV motherboard
Seagate 80G HDD
Crucial Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp. SV84510A.86A.0008.P04.0210201732, 10/20/2002
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
Build 2600
