Floppy Drive-missing

I just updated from ME to XP professional and I no longer
can access my floppy drive. When I go to my computer it
is not even listed. When I go to device manager, the
floppy drive is listed however, it has a yellow
exclamation mark on it. When I click on the drive it
says: Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code
39) I have tried un-installing and re-installing but to
no avail. I have also tried windows updates and that did
not work either. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You might try going into your system's BIOS by tapping delete or F1 (on
some systems it might be F2 or F10) when first booting your computer. Look
around for the floppy drive in there and see if it is showing up. It might
be listed as "not installed", in which case you can change it to the proper
setting (1.44). If you make a change be sure and find the "Save changes and
exit" option to get out of BIOS.
Is the light on your floppy coming on momentarily when you first boot?
Can you still boot the computer with your ME startup disk?

How do I update the BIOS and once I do that, is their a
particular way to get out of BIOS?

That was bad advice. You don't need to update your BIOS for a floppy
drive error, and you don't need to reinstall Windows. First, check to
see if the floppy drive is seen in the BIOS - when the computer first
starts up. If it is not, then check if the ribbon cable is securely
seated and the power connection is snug. If still no joy, then try a
different, known-working floppy drive.

The Floppy Drive is listed in the BIOS and the drive
light does blink on during boot-up. Any suggestions?

Yes, the Floppy Drive is listed in the BIOS as enabled
and yes, the light does come on during boot-up. What is
my next option?
Thanks

Swap it out for a known-working floppy and see if that helps.

The solution to my problem was my Virus Protection. The
day after posting this message, I noticed that my Virus
Protection was not up and running. While updating to XP,
my VP was erased. After updating my VP, the A-drive
reappeared. Thanks for your help anyway.
