Icon for safely remove hardware shows up in taskbar and
the dialog box when open contains my floppy drive! If I
stop it, my floppy drive is gone from system, restart
finds it and reinstalls it, but then the safely remove
hardware box comes up again containing the floppy drive.
Any help?

Floppy drive does show in device manager as "floppy disk
drive" and floppy controller shows as "standard floppy
disk controller". Somehow my system is seeing it as a
removable drive and is telling me it's OK to stop?! Mike

Do you have any removable drives hooked to the system - Iomega Zip,
Jazz, USB external, etc. ? Sometimes when the devices are
enumerated into the registry, they are registered incorrectly. I
have had this happen when I had a Zip drive hooked to the system.

What you might try is to delete all removable devices and the floppy
drive from device manager and reboot. Then let XP detect them again
and see if it gets everything correct.
