Please help us to help you. Your message is very hard to
understand. What is this floppy? What does "designed to work with
Windows 95/98" mean? All floppies have the same format (FAT12)
and should work on any version of Windows.

What does "need to make floppy run on my XP home edition" mean?
Does the floppy contain a program you're trying to run? What
program? How are you trying to run it? What happens when you try?
If you get an error message, please quote it verbatim.

Finally, what does any of this have to do with the PC having gone
down?

Floppy disks are compatible with all Windows operating systems. If your floppy disk doesn't work, it might be damaged and no longer usable. If your newer PC doesn't have a floppy drive, an external one can be added easily and cheaply. I wouldn't bother trying to install the old drive. It could be damaged from the lightening.

A floppy disk written on a Win95/98 machine should be readable on
Windows XP.

Are you perhaps referring to the hard drive instead? Your message is
kind of hard to understand.
