floppy disc problem

Hi
When I switch my xp home pc on it sometimes comes up with floppy disc fail
(40) press F1 to continue and pc starts up fine any ideas on how I can stop
this happening all the time.

If you are familiar with the hardware of the PC you could open the
chassis and check the cable connections and - if this does not help -
replace the drive. If you do not know how to do this, you may want to
take the computer to your local hardware vendor to have them
troubleshoot this for you.
