I need to get some info off of floppies created on a
machine with Win '98. When I insert into drive on my XP
machine I get "Disk in drive A not formatted, etc". I
have not had to do this before so can't figure out what I
am running into. Can someone enlighten me and perhaps a
suggestion on how to get the files I need. Someone
suggested I find a '98 machine with a cd burner and copy
files to the cd and then transfer. Seems like a real task
to me.

Hi, George.

Have you tried the floppy on another PC? This symptom is usually off a
corrupt floppy.

Assuming the floppy works ok on the 98 machine, try copying the files onto
another floppy, preferably one that was formated on the XP machine. Just
something to try, don't know if it will help. I've found floppies that
mysteriously went bad in a few minutes, and some that would work on 1
machine but not another.

XP's floppy driver is the culprit. See: http://tinyurl.com/llkb for a
description and fix.

Thanks to all. I can read the floppy on my other machines
that have '98 OS. Will try copying the files from a '98
OS to a floppy formattted on the XP machine.
