I have inserted a Flash movie in a powerpoint template with Visual Basic. All
this is done according to the Flashgeek description on
http://www.flashgeek.com/tutorials/02_embed_01.asp

The problem is it does work on the PC at my place on Windows 98 and also at
my laptop with 2000 Pro but it doesn't work in my clients environment.

They work with XP and first they try to start it from a server which didn't
work. After placing it on the local C: drive it still didn't work. I asked
them to be sure that they put the ppt file and the Flash movie in exactly the
same map as i described in the visual basic of the ppt file. It still didn't
work.

They don't see a red cross or something they do see the first frame of the
flash animation so the link to the movie seems OK. But yet it doesn't play
the animation.

Does anyone recognize this? It would be very helpful I've tried so many
things i dried out of ideas

Thanx

You can embed the flash movie into the presentation: Right-click on the
inserted object and choose properties. Change the value for EmbedMovie from
"false" to "true". AFAIK your client needs to have a flash player installed
on his system, as PPT uses that to show the movie.

Vielen dank Ute,

I looked in the properties of the Flash Movie and it was already embedded
(true) the way you described, So your solution seems not the answer
unfortunately. I send the file also to some friends and asked them whether it
will play on their PC and it did with no exception on different MS systems.

I asked my client also to look at the security options and asked them to set
it to medium (so ppt asks whether you want to enable the Macro or not before
opening the file) which they did but again with no result.

Are you sure they are using the full version of PowerPoint? The Viewer will
not play Flash movies.

My client uses next edition: Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003

PowerPoint 2003 has some flaws when it comes freshly out of the box. I am
not sure whether they affect flash movies, but tell them to make sure, that
ALL updates, especially Service Pack 1 for Office 2003 have to be installed.

And have them set macro security to medium (not higher) and accept questions
to use macros, ActiveX and the like.

Can you send them the SWF file and have them open it with their Internet
Explorer to see whether it plays there?

Kind regards
Ute

Thanx Ute, for your help.

For the moment I have to pause on this due to holiday obligations on their
side. But I guess we're close to a solution. But if not I will come back on
this in the near future.

Thanx again so far.

Regards Rob
