Flag email for response

I would love to see a feature added to Outlook that allows me to flag an
email "for response," meaning, it would stay flagged for follow-up until a
response email is received. Then I would have the option of keeping the flag
or letting it expire.

Seems to me Outlook already does this. When you flag a message, it remains
flagged until you unflag it. Thus, you can flag a message and then when you
get a response to it, unflag the original or leave it flagged at your
discretion. Operationally, how does this differ from your suggestion?

I guess I didn't explain as well as I could have.

I want a feature that allows me to flag an email as waiting for a response
so I do not have to figure out if it has been responded to or not. Say I
have an email from John Schmidt with a Subject of Piano. I flag it "for
response." When John Schmidt replies to that message, a pop up asks me if I
want to remove the flag or not.

Right now I can flag the message, but I have to sort back through the
messages and do a find all related messages search to determine if John
Schmidt replied to me about the piano.

Likewise, if I could attach a date to this flag, it would remind me to email
John Schmidt again if I hadn't heard back about the piano email.

Does that make more sense?

Certainly in Outlook 2003 you can set different colours for flags

This is already available from Outlook 2002 onwards at least - when you flag
the message there's an option to set a "due by" date

I use the due by date all the time, but even if I enter a due by date,
Outlook is not going to tell me if the email has been replied to or not. I
would still have to check for replies. Do you follow?
