flag contacts for follow-up

I want to use the "flag for follow up" feature and for
some reason, when I set the flag, then set the date and
time for the reminder as the help files dictate, the flag
shows but the reminder does not open at the date and time
selected.
How do I get a follow up flag to actually remind me with
a 'reminder' that opens?

Is the Contact in your default Contact folder

No, the contact is in a folder I created specifically for
business prospects. Does it have to be in the default
folder to function properly?

Yes reminders/flags need to be in default folders, however you could go
