After many, many, many long days and nights of this
problem I figured I would let everyone know how it has
been resolved. And my story begins.
A couple months ago I installed some trial anti-virus
software. I then uninstalled it after the period was
over. Boy, remind me never to do that again! Certain
web sites (ESPN, rockstargames.com) wouldn't work because
it told me I needed to install Macromedia Flash. What
stumped me was that other web sites that had flash worked
flawlessly. I dumped my cookies, temp files and objects
and even reinstalled Macromedia Flash. But to no avail.
Finally I got smart and used a program called Process
Explorer from Sysinternals.com. Great program that tells
you what dll's are being used for your applications. I
found one that was called jscript.dll and one called
vbscript.dll. Hmmmm, I thought to myself I am getting
closer. I registered the jscript.dll file but to no
avail it didn't resolve my issue. I then tried the
vbscript.dll and to my amazement it worked! So to make a
long story short (too late) some sites use java script
and others use vb script. The ones that used java script
worked fine because my jscript.dll file was registered
properly. The vb script web sites did not. Register the
vbscript.dll file and all should be well. This may fix
other issues that you have with web sites that don't work
for some reason.
