I have been using MS Word since the DOS version. I've used it on the Mac and
on the PC when you couldn't give the product away. I am absoluted AMAZED that
your handling of moderately complex headers and footer and page numbers is as
bad as it is. It hasn't improved since the DOS version! In fact, it's SO BAD
that I'm wasting my time writing this comment to make myself feel better!

What is especially aggravating is trying to make the 1st page have a
DIFFERENT NUMBER! than the rest. Like when you use the 1st page as a title
page. Like in 90% of the documents I have to do in my job. God forbid you
have two different page layouts in the same document -- like I've got now
!!!! Whoever designed this from a UI perspective should be tarred and
feathered by the person who coded it. The coder should be immediately shot
after the tar-and-feathering.

Good grief.

And your question is?

Whom do you think you're addressing? We're all just users here. For your
title page, have you tried the "Different first page" setting on the Layout
tab of Page Setup? See also

You need use break sections (Insert menu) in your document for do this. The
sections allow have many formats (margins, headers, footers, etc.) in the
same page. when you insert a section, you can use the 'Different first page'
feature (in the page setup dialog window). A fast access to this dialog is
doing double click over the top ruler, then select the Layout tab. If you
see, you can use 'Different odd and even' for have in your document,
differents headers and footers in the odd and even pages. But..., you can
have different headers and fotters using New sections when you start a new
page (Section starts: New page, in page setup dialog, Layout tab). Doing a
click in the 'Link to previous' button (on the Headers and Footers toolbar)
break the link to the previous page, and now... you can write a different
hearder or footer without affect the previous pages.

I hope that this, help to you. Word is a good editor, but I love Indesign
from Adobe. Cool and professional page layout. Sorry for my litle english.

Regards from Mexico!
