Based on my own experience and what I can easily find in Google Groups, the
Promise Ultra series driver has shown two common problems:
-Causing your sound to stutter and pop
-Causing annoying Event ID's of mainly 9, 11, and 51, frequently when coming
out of Standby (also causing that process to be slower than it should), but
according to some people, just at any old time, too.
Some months ago, Promise came out with a fix for the first issue (though you
could have avoided it all along by using a Promise v1.xx driver), and to my
great surprise, it also got rid of the stubborn second issue, too.
It works for the Ultra 100, 100TX2, 133TX2, and maybe others too like the
Ultra 33/66. I have the Ultra 100 and first went into the specific section
for it on the site below, but as of this writing, they only have the older
2.00.0.39 version there. Go into either section for the TX2 cards and you'll
find 2.00.0.42, which according to its .INF file supports all the cards from
Ultra 33 on up to 133TX2. Version 2.00.0.42 (late March 2003) is the one
that worked for me. Wish I'd found it sooner.
