Hi Rick,

Give this a try:

Go to Start>Run and key in:
services.msc
<ENTER>

In the Services window, look in the right-hand pane for Automatic Updates
and double-click on that entry. In the Startup type field, use the drop-down
picklist to select Automatic and, if the Service status is Stopped, click on
the Start button. Click on Apply, OK and close the Services window. Restart
your computer. Now try to configure the automatic updates.

I too am having this problem. However in my case, a virus attack remove
the service from my workstation all together. How can I get it back s
that I can activate it?
