fix broken shortcuts

Hi,

I had a Cygwin setup which had gotten corrupted due to a broken
installation. I am attempting to remove it completely, but inspite of
having made myself the owner (successfully) of the entire installation
directory, I find that some "shortcuts"are broken (as the "Target"
attribute is NULL), and I am unable to delete them. The OS reports
"Access Denied".

On googling I came accross a shareware tool to fix/remove such links.
Any alternatives (free for instace), to do this job ??

Are these .lnk shortcuts (Type = Shortcut) or folder shortcuts (Type = Folder)?

I found two freeware softwares, viz.-

OrphansRemover from
http://www.digiarch.org/other.html#orphansremover

and also, EmptyTempsFolder 2.8.3 from
http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/index.html

While the first one failed to detect the broken links, the second one
detected the links initially, but silently removed them from the
search-result window, before allowing me to remove them.

This means that there's some royal messup! Not sure what.
