Just heard that Advent are bringing out a full system with the following spec:
Pent 4 3.06GHz
512 DDR
GeForceFX 5800 Ultra GPU
120Gb HDD (5200x...but 5200 not always better than 7200)
16X DVD ROM
48X CD-RW
USB Keys + optical mouse
56K modem
Network ready
WinXP Home + Works 7 + Nero + Power DVD
(Don't know about monitor)

Price is supposed to be £1,400. This seems very low given that the vid and the cpu together would cost around £1K if bought seperately. Supposed to be available online only via pcworld.co.uk (not sure about US etc)...I've checked the site but they don't appear to have it advertised yet.

Anyone else heard of this?

Nope, they overspent by about £500.

... or shall I say they are making a big profit

I’ll break it down …
CPU = £350
512 DDR (PC2700) 333 = £39 (may as well have two sticks)
GeForceFX 5800 Ultra GPU = £250
120Gb HDD 7200rpm = £82 (yep a 7200)
PIONEER - 40x 16x DVD ROM = £26
Lite-on 52x24X52 CD-RW = £35
Natural Multimedia Keyboard & Intellimouse Optical = £20
56K V92 Hardware modem = £9
Network ready VIA VT6103 LAN controller = onboard

WinXP Pro + Works 2003 + Nero + Power DVD

... and to tie it all together I'll throw in a:
KT4V-L (SKT-A / MS-6712) or the MSI K7N2G-ILSR = £93 (for the K7N)

Total £904

:D

Sorry boss, don't build Intels.

... and unlike me, they don't tell you what/who the manufacturer of the components are. I always build my own then I'm sure of the components.

Yup, I build my own too and would expect to pay around £1K for that system, but I was thinking in relative terms...an off the shelf pc with legal software and the latest vid + high end pent, plus the fact that they've put it all together for the customer and presumably offer some sort of warranty...£1400 seemed pretty low. A friend of mine bought a Dell system a couple of months ago based around a 2.4GHz pent and a pretty basic 64Mb GeForce4 Ti4200 for ...wait for it...£2.5K !! He thought wrongly the scanner, printer and digicam (probably worth £300 in total) made it a good buy. I was really pissed off as I was trying to get him to have my existing system (Athlon XP2100+ 128Mb Ti4600 etc...) and all for a measly few hundred.
