hello.

i just installed my first computer by myself.

and it seems that something is wrong. everytime, when i
turn on the computer, nothing happens. i can see the
computer light turning for a few seconds, and i can see
the chip fan running, but the screen is in the
hibernation mode.

i always have to open the case, and unplug the AT plug (i
think that is the name,) and another plug with probably
over 10 pins from the motherboard.

then i replug everything back in, and preppy start again.
this time, the computer works.

i tried several times to set the BIOS menu to set the
first boot device as the hard disk. And usually, if i
turn off the computer, and turn it back on in a few
hours. it works perfectly.

but if i turn off the computer, and try to use the next
day. then i will have to go through the whole process
again. oh, after i unplug everything, i noticed that the
computer clock will be set back to january 1st again.

so why is that? is there something wrong with the
motherboard? i am using an AMD chip and a compatible
motherboard.

thanks!

This almost sounds to me like the onboard CMOS battery is either
dead or defective.. I would check that first.. If that battery is
not in good shape or possibly a bad seating in its mount it WILL
upset the bios settings as well as the clock.
