firmware question

I am running xp pro, fully updated. i have a LG dvd writer and a Lite-on dvd
writer fitted. the lite-on is connected as the secondary master and dma is
set to 'on'
I find on the Lite-On website that a firmware version is available.
My question is does a firmware update make a great deal of difference
to the running and the burning with the drive. is the firmware update easy
to carry out
and if need be, is it reversable. I must add that both the drives are
working perfectly
any feedback would be appreciated

Let me warn you, I was working on a customers computer not long ago (Vista)
and it had one of those vendor installed update programs,(HP ?), well one
of the updates was a firmware upgrade for the DVD burner
Short story, Vista locked up, DVD never worked again.
If it ain't broke......

thanks for that, clarke.I used Google and I thought I would give the NG a
try. It seems to be the old adage,'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'
thank you

As far as I know, firmware updates have no provision for reversal to former
status. A firmware update should note exactly what its supposed to fix. If
you do not have such a problem, there's no point.
