Firewire hotplug would damage Aopen mobo...

An Aopen's motherboard manual (for i915GMm-HFS) includes this
statement:

Warning: Please note that
Hot-Plug is not allowed on
IEEE 1394 headers; doing so
will burn the controller IC and
damage the motherboard.

Do you think that applies to the firewire device at the other end of
the cable - so that no firewire device can be connected or disconnected
while the machine is switched on? Sounds really poor........

How many people will have the case open to plug in connection's to the
headers on the mother board That's why they have connections on the In/Out
panel and case front

Is there some electrical difference between external connection and the
motherboard headers? Is the cable not just a collection of wires.....?

No. Hot-plug capable connectors are designed with physical features
that minimise the risk of damage by connecting the wrong pins (or the
right pins in the wrong sequence). The motherboard headers don't have
that, so they're not hot-plug capable.

I can see the issue over the connection /sequence/ ... Ta
