Firewire External HD Problem

I am using a Shuttle computer with the firewire on the motherboard. I
bought a Kingwin External Enclosure with a 200GB Western Digital Hard
Drive in it. I successfully Partitioned the drive into 2 spaces and
formated the drive and actually have written to it. After rebooting
the PC the partition is no longer formated. What is causing this
problem and how do I fix it?

I was able to fix it myself. I finally found and understand how to
update the controllers bios. After I updated the bios my problems are
gone.
