Yes, that's correct. You'll want to enable the firewall only on your
outgoing (to the Internet) connection and not have a firewall on the
connection for your lan.

Yes, that's quite normal. The built-in firewall is not designed
to be used on internal LAN connections. The only connection on which
you should have ICF enabled is the direct connection to the Internet.
