Absolutely. Running without a firewall these days is nothing
short of foolhardy.

Any additional code you execute uses CPU cycles, and has to have
some effect on performance. That said, the amount of slowdown a
firewall causes is very minor. It's highly unlikely that you'll
even notice it.
