firewall on window 2000 server

We had a Windows 2000 server 1-4 CPU put in about 2 years
ago. Due to all the advancements of the worms and viruses
we were suggested to install a server that has a firewall.
My question is does this particular server not have a
firewall and secondly would we actually have to buy a new
server with a firewall or is there some type of product we
could install in the current server in order to act as a
firewall?

Thank you very much,

Windows 2000 Server does not have a built in firewall. Microsoft makes a
product called ISA that uses Windows 2000 Server to make a very powerful
firewall. But it may be overkill for your situation. You probably just need a
firewall appliance at your internet connection if you do not have one already,
which will protect all of your computers. Keeping your server and all of your
computers protected by up to date anti virus program such as Norton that also
scans emails and applying any necessary critical updates from Microsoft at least
weekly is also a very important part of your network security. Depending on your
network configuration you probably will be fine with a firewall device from
companies such as Sonic Wall or Netscreen for as little as $400. --- Steve
