Firewall issues.

After upgradeing to SP2, the firewall switched on, and I
decided I might as well try it. However, it's giving me
issues. It's not blocking programs and allowing programs
correctly. For example, it doesn't always ask me if I want
to block a program from accessing the internet. It just
allows it. Also, when it does ask me, it's not blocking
anything while the prompt is up, and it doesn't block
anything when I tell it to always block the program either.

The XP firewall doesn't block outbound, only inbound, that's one reason
why a 3rd party firewall is better.

Why not run both? I've heard that they can cause conflicts but to date
I've not experienced this.

You'll find those with different points on view on this. Here's
mine: don't run two firewalls. You achieve no extra protection,
you incur the extra overhead of running two firewalls, and you
run the risk (probably small, but not zero) of conflicts between
them.

James:

IMO, those who have tried it, generally find that it works fine; those who
have not tried it, make negative posts about the concept.

I have run two firewalls together for several years on various MS op systems
without any problems.
There are advantages to running two firewalls at the same time.
