Firewall block

I have a new computer with windows XP pro loaded and antivirus pack, nothing
else.

When I start up, the firewall gives me a message:

vsserv is trying to act as a server.
Protocol TCP
Local address 0.0.0.0:10025

Allow all traffic by this application over the specified protocol ?

Can someone explain, please, what this means. My options are to accept,
deny etc.

It's part of Bit Defender Security software. When any type of Firewall
configuration/alert screen appears if you don't understand or know what
to do - click it's help on the alert box. Firewall's must be taught which
and what applications to allow Internet access.
 
Thanks for your comment. I am using BitDefender 9 Internet Security. I take
your point, but there is no "Help" button on the alert box. I appreciate
that firewall's must be taught the rules. For that to happen it seems that
I have to first learn how to do this.

I assume that vsserv is something from Win XP. Does anyone know what this
is likely to be, or what it might be trying to connect to.. ?

Vsserv is the Bit Defender module. It is the module that monitors
network traffic. You have to Allow it, to be able to monitor all
other traffic. Internet traffic uses ports (65,53x). Certain traffic
flows on certain ports. In your example the server was trying to
access port #10025. In creating Firewall rules you have "Block",
"Allow" and the conditionals Always & Never.
