firewall and updates

I have Windows XP. I wanted to check my firewall to be
sure it was enabled. Instructions say Control Panel-
Network Conections-Network Tasks-Change settings-Advanced
tab-Internet Connection Firewall-Protect... Only
problem is I have no Internet Connection Firewalll choice
on my Advanced Tab. What does this mean? Does my XP
have no firewall??
Also, when I check the MS main page for updates it says I
am missing a lot of updates. I auto update every time I
am told - so why are these updates not coming through.
Do I need to check this site all the time?
Last question: Is there a way to stop pop ups w/ my XP
without purchasing other software?
THANK YOU!!!

Hi Joni,
Unfortunately, not much of a help, but I have the same
problem with the firewall. In the advanced tab, mentions
that the WMI might be corrupted!!!

If anyone, can help with that much appreciated.

In regards to the updates,

Automatic updates in Windows XP - check

With the issue of Pop ups, you need a firewall
FREE firewall program

Prevent Pop-up Ad Windows When Browsing with Internet
Explorer

sites/stoppopups.asp

I hope we find a solution to the XP firewall. I have a
bad feeling that the only way around it is to restore the
system to an earlier point.
