I have noticed that FF 1.0.3 and 1.0.5 do not stay in RAM, they are gone
as soon as they are closed.

But 1.0.7 hangs in memory after shutdown, I needed two runs with Task
Manager to close FF.

Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, this happens sometimes (any version up to 1.5). Possible reasons:
extensions, javascript, low memory,....

In this case, I only use Prefbar in all three versions, javascript is
disabled, always have plenty of free memory, so I think it differs due
to 1.0.7

Same here except I have a bunch of extensions and it will suck up 2g of
memory like a vacuum.

Maybe it's one of your extensions, I have a few extensions (StumbleUpon,
FoxyTunes, User Agent Switcher, Googlebar, Orkut Toolbar, Forecastfox,
bbCode and CustomizeGoogle) and Firefox eats ~75 MB RAM.

What extensions are you using?
