Core Duo, Vista Home Premium, no unusual apps or utilities,
virus/trojan-free

Firefox 2.0.0.4, labeled Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4)
Gecko/20070515

This combination has been running perfectly, but only today
Firefox began quitting. I get a white screen and spinning blue
ring of frustration, then the "failure" notice. Firefox stops,
and all is well. I can restart it and it might work for a minute
or for hours. There is no specific event that seems to replicate
the failure.

I re-installed Firefox, and an hour later it happened again.

Any ideas? Can you suggest anything I should check?

Thanks!

You could try a system restore to a recent restore point when this wasn't
happening.

fire up the task manager and see if some other app is strangling
Firefox by eating up all the CPU cycles.

Try disabling any firefox add ons (extensions), as some of these don't
play well with Vista, especially with UAC enabled. If this solves your
problem, you could reenable them one at a time until you work out which
one causes the incompatibility.

Regards,

Tom

This has restored stability, so if it remains okay for 24 hours
I'll try to ID the culprit - and will report to the author.

Thanks!
