Firefox 1.06 instability?

Anyone notice anything amiss with this version?
Just upgraded from 1.04, on a new W98 installation, and for the first
time ever I had a couple of crashes.

Fairly unremarkable for most programs, I'll admit, but this is the
first time I've ever seen Firefox fall on its arse.

Could it be my use of extensions carried over from the previous
version? They seem to work....

Regards,

I'd have to say yes. Occasional crashes for no obvious reason.

Regards,

Not a single crash yet, on XP Home SP2. Try making a new profile and
see if that is stable; if so, add back your extensions one at a time
until you find the culprit.

I have had a couple the last 2 weeks on 2 different machines and have no
extensions installed. Running Windows 2000 Pro on both. Have not had a
crash previous to this release.

Try starting it in safe mode and see if the crashes continue. If they
don't, an extension is most likely the culprit.

Tried all that...even updated the extensions. Still getting
intermittent errors..even had to give it the old three fingered salute
the other day when it ground to a complete halt. To be fair though, I
did have two windows running, each with half a dozen tabs in them...

Funny thing is though, in spite of these problems it's still far more
stable than my ultra-patched IE6 - and half as fast again.
If I can be arsed, I might revert to 1.04...

Maybe try saving the Firefox program and settings directories somewhere
safe, uninstalling, then deleting original directories, then (if
paranoid enough, and confident with registry), deleting all registry
entries, then reinstalling 1.0.6?

I've done this now and again with programs which I think are not faulty,
but are misbehaving; it often works.

Win XP system restore will often revert OK if this goes wrong (but I
have a tape backup too).

Best wishes,

That's pretty much how I installed it on a fresh W98 installation. I
saved the Chrome subfolders that contain my tweaks ( default icon etc.
) and restored them after installation.

Works for me too as a rule, though I don't usually have any problems
immediately after installation.
Seems to be fine today..so maybe it just needed time to settle in!

On the Firefox boards, you would be prompted to create a new profile.

Nobody can pin down these strange intermittent errors with Firefox. The
great majority of users have no problems whatsoever, but others do. I think
it's hardware related, personally.

More often extension related I'd say.

Disabling them all and re-enabling them one by one, or disabling them one
by one, and seeing what happens is usually the way to go. But tedious
sometimes.

Cheers,

Roy
