finnicky font!

I tried to install a font by going to Control Panel ,
Fonts, File, Install new font (KIDS), and also by renaming
it and installing by another method. However each time I
attempt I get a message similar to: this font is currently
being used by this computer please try again later.
Any suggestions?

Try it from the Safe Mode. See "A Description of the Safe Boot Mode
Options in Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315222).
