Finding My Documents Folder after System Restore

K

I had to perform a standard system restore on my PC.
Prior to this, I was totally unable to backup or copy any
of my files to a zip drive or CD. My computer was totally
locked up.

It is my understanding that all of my "personal" folders
still exist somewhere on my PC. Obviously, judging by my
hard drive capacity, they are still there.... I just
cannot find them at all.

I've looked all through Windows Explorer - including the
Documents and Settings folder. I've found one folder
there that has my first name on it - I'm guessing that may
be my old settings and folders, but I cannot open this
folder. It tells me access is denied.

Any help or suggestions??

I had some extremely important files in my folders and
would like to recover them if possible.

Thanks

The folder that is giving you an "access denied" message is a good bet for
the missing files. XP is still protecting it for the "old" owner. It has no
way of knowing that you are still you and it is doing its job by continuing
to protect these items. Take ownership of the folder and files to regain
access.
