"find people" dialog cannot find in outlook 2003, only express?

Trying to find a multiple field search dialog in outlook 2003 similar to
outlook express's "find people" dialog.

It seems, outlook 2003 only offers a single field search criteria.... rather
than the more robust outlook express's "find people" dialog.

Can one build an "find people" dialog for outlook 2003 ? or somehow be
copied from outlook express ? Please help.

Have you tried using Advanced Find? All the fields you could possibly want...

Hi John,
I cannot add addtional fields in the "In:" field using Advanced find

If you can inform me on how to add multiple items in the In: field
would be much appreciated. I tried holding the ctl key ... shift key..
but without any success.... there should be a way so please help.

Have you tried the Advanced Tab? You can add whatever fields you want in
there.

BTW, if and/or when you finally get it working, and if it is a search you
think you'll do on a regular basis, you can save the search parameters and
then easily run it again and again. I put some of my favorite searches in
the shorcut menu for quick and easy use...

Here's the deal.. if you look at the outlook express 'find people'
dialog, you will see
that one can do a multiple search criteria ... e.g. having the dialog up,
you can choose any number of 5 different fields
(name,e-mail,address,phone,other) that is shown. Sooo, if you have a half
dozen contacts to reach, but in some cases you only remember one of the
fields for each one of them... not a problem using the 'find people' dialog
its all in front of you.... but for outlook 2003 as you have seen, one must
keep shifting back to the advanced tab, if you remember only a different
criteria for each of the six contacts.

Does outlook 2003 have a 'find people' dialog ? (I don't think so)
If not, can we import the executable code from express to outlook 2003?

Finally, to me microsoft, at present, has taken a backward step by
eliminating the 'find people' dialog in outlook 2003.
I appreciate in the help you have provided today!

Have you turned on the "Find" box in Outlook? In my Contacts folder, I
tried searching for every one of the five choices from the OE box (Name,
Email, Address, Phone, Other) and they all worked. I just put in whatever
snippet of text I wanted, relating to one of those choices, and up came the
appropriate contacts. I'm not sure if you can search on multiple criteria,
but how often do you need that? The point is, you don't have to specify
which field it is, as in OE, you just put the konwn data in the search box
and Outlook finds the corresponding contacts. To me that seems simpler than
the OE box.

You could also download the beta MSN search bar and do indexed searches of
your whole OL file (as well as the rest of your computer) right from the XP
task bar. I pretty much use that all the time now.

Aside from all of that, I don't believe OL has an OE style Find People box.
If one of the above procedures won't work, then you'll need to use Advanced
Find.

Hi John,
I'm in the contacts - microsoft outlook control menu screen
There is a 'find' in the advanced toolbar ...is that what you are referring
to:
"turned on the "Find" box in Outlook" ??
I cliked on find then part of a valid phone number...a bogus message "no
items found" appears.
Can you provide step x step instructions in getting to turning on find, if
this is not the same find you are referring to ?

I also downloaded per your suggestion the msn beta toolbar. How do you do
indexed searches for outlook data ? Please provide some added step x step
details

There is a little search box on one of the toolbars that says in a light
font "Type a contact to find". That will only search contact names, email
addresses, and companies (if that is what you are searching on it is quite
useful).

In OL2003 either do Ctrl-E or go Tools -> Find -> Find. This opens a little
find strip below the toolbars. In contacts, that find will search most of
the fields in a contact record.

I think that the beta MSN Toolbar search defaults to indexing and searching
OL if you have it installed. If not, you can go into its options and enable
it. It will also index and search OE...

Hi John,
The beta MSN Toolbar search does the trick.. you can even wild card with
an asterisk (*) and even use the boolean or '|' symbol in the same search
field.
just use the wildcard '*' when in doubt about a word ..it seems it requires
3 alphanumerics ... so when e.g. searching for 'fish' used 'fi*', since 'fi'
finds zippo.

Yes, I've become quite dependent on the MSN Toolbar. Haven't tried wild
card searches yet - I'll have to give that a go sometime...
