Find is very slow after migrate to IIS6

Hello, I hope someone can help me with my query.

We have been running a development site using FP2003 on Win2KPro
workstations off a Win2KServer/IIS5 backend for some time. If it is of
any relevance we are using a DNS alias for the development site
(http://internetdev - imaginative I know!)

We recently migrated the server to Win2003/IIS6 by bringing up a new
server and once configured changing the DNS to point at the new
server, creating a temporary DNS to the old server
(http://internetdevold) and then using FP to pubish the site from
http://internetdevold to http://internetdev then continiung to work
from http://internetdev

A problem has arisen with the Find function of FP2003. We often have
to archive pages from our site and so need to search for links to the
pages (our pages are generated from a template via a cgi script so
FP's linking is not used at all). We use the "Find in source code"
option to search for page filenames.

When hosted on IIS5 the search (~1100 pages) was extremely quick and
took less than 30 seconds. Now when a search is carried out on IIS6 it
takes around 10 minutes with the status bar reporting "Processing
xxxxx" for a few of seconds for each page.

After searching this group and the web in general I have cleaned out
all temp files from:
C:\WINNT\Temp
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache

then recalculated the web but still have the same problem.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

TIA

You need to add the same settings shown on your Windows 2000 server to the Windows 2003 server for
the FP extensions.

Start the SharePoint Extensions Administration from Control Panel / Admin Tools
Select the Virtual Server, then select Change Configuration Settings, then type in the same
Performance Tuning Settings on IIS6 that you see on IIS5.

Windows 2003 Server, at least on my install, all entries were blank, once I filled in the entries,
so similar issue that I was also having.

Hi thanks for this. The settings on IIS5 are all blank! Although I do
usually just set them to one of the defaults (100-1000 I think)

I have already had a look at these settings on IIS6 and tried each of
the defaults. And nothing worked...

I even tried upping the index size to 16MB (we have 10MB of html) and
64MB (plus 30MB of PDF) and neither worked....

Thanks though!

After you made the changes, did you stop and restart the server?

It is the Performance Setting for the Extensions, when you use the UNC path you are not using the FP
Server extensions.
