Find and Uninstall pernicious program.

Getting settled into the Vista operating system, I stupidly downloaded a
"free" program purported to speed up my machine. Now, I can't locate it in
order to get rid of it. It's not in Installed Programs, Documents, or
Pictures, unless it's usiong an undercover ID. It pops up at regular
intervals to let me know it's scanning and working for me, and why don't i
buy it? I don't want the #$@?&! thing, and only want to destroy it, befor
it does any damage - something I'm not sure about. It calls itself "PC
Mighty Max 1007". Help! A pox on the hucksters! May they waken with
itchin powder in the ior jokey shorts.

"FREE" does not always mean good

do a format and a clean install of Vista to be sure it is gone.
next time download programs from a reputable source like Download.com

sorry

Hello Sub-amateur hackerJoe Sub-amateur,

Run the installer .exe from it again and follow the install screen until
you hopefully find a remove option.

Best regards

There is no uninstall for that, you'll need to manually remove it. The
steps below should get you going:

-run msconfig.exe and go to the startup tab
-remove the check from pcmm.exe (may be pcmm2007.exe)
-reboot
-browse to your program files folder (c:\program files) and find the PC
Mighty Max folder
-delete the pc might max folder
-----advanced
-reboot
-create a restore point
-run regedit and remove all references to PC Mighty Max and pcmm

Tom has already answered you "how to" question, but for the future, free or
not, all programs that purport to speed up your machine are essentially
snake oil. Stay away from them.
