How do I get the functionality of find and replace or even just find?

Find: CTRL+F
Find and replace: CTRL+H

Or on the home tab completely at the right (Editing group)

Then you'll need to provide a far more significant amount of detail about
how you're trying to use the features, what you're trying to use them for,
what you expect, what you mean by "not functioning", etc. the folks here
cannot see over your shoulder, nor are they clairvoyant :-)

I have a mis-spelling i.e. "form". I want to correct the spelling everywhere
it is mispelled in my document (125 pages). I use the "Find and Replace"
feature. Find "form" and Replace with "from." I know it has happened many
times. The message I get is "Word has finished searching the document. The
search item was not found." I know there are many of these errors. Why has
Word not found these errors? I used this feature all the time in 2003. Also I
want to search for the word "mentor." I know it is in my document (125 pages)
100's of times. I get the same message as above. Help!

Are any Formatting options set in the Find window? (They'll appear
below the Find What? box near the top of the window.) If so, click
More and then No Formatting.

Use the spell checker to fix all of them.

But the spell checker won't try to "fix" them because the words "form" and
"mentor" are valid words. You'd have to add them to an exclusion dictionary to
make the spell checker flag them.
