filtering child sub form

I have an employee form with a subform in datasheet view. the subform has a
column for employee travel miles. I have a total working on the form for the
column, but I need to filter it by a date range. Any suggestions, thanks in
advance,

Do you want to filter the total or the records displayed in the subform?
 
Which part of my question were you answering "yes, I do"?

Do you have a couple text boxes on your main form to enter your dates? If
not create them as txtStart and txtEnd.
