Fill-in Field in Footer

When I use a fill-in field in a footer, I'm asked for a value twice -- once
when I open the document, and again when I print it. How can I stop the
second request?

I'm using Word 2003; the suggested fix references Word 97. Tthe second
request is confined to the fill-in fields in the footer only.

Header and footer fields update when you print, even if you have the update
fields when printing box unchecked. Try using an ASK field instead with a
REF field in the footer referring to your bookmark. See the Ask and Fill-In
