Filing Contacts in First Name, Last Name order in Outlook 2003

My option for the filing and displaying of contacts is First Name, Last Name.
However, contacts are filed in Last Name, First Name order, although they are
displayed in First Name, Last Name order.

State your Outlook version and the view to which you are referring.
State the setting you have specified for your File As... field.

Hi Russ

My version is Outlook 2003. In options for contacts the default Full Name
order is set as First (Middle) Last, while the default File As order is set
to First Last. When I view my contacts in address card view, the name in the
heading is in First Name Last Name order. When I open an entry the Full Name
is in Last Name First Name Order.

My earlier contacts display correctly in First Name Last Name order for both
Full Name and File As fields. Later contacts appear as indicated above. My
recollection is that the event that triggered the incorrect display was a
third party add-in that I had installed at some stage, I think while still
using Outlook 2000 -- similar to Microsoft's Business Contact Manager (which
I also installed after upgrading to Office 2003, but uninstalled it later).
With the upgrade to Office 2003 I imported data from the 2000 .pst file.

A recent virus problem forced me to re-install Windows XP and all my
software. I again imported my Outlook data from a backup of my .pst file into
the new .pst file. Business Contact Manager was not installed

I hope I have not confused you with my long-winded reply, but I tried to
give all the details I think may be relevant to find a solution.

Regards

David

That was sure a lot of information you left out. This is a pretty nasty knot
to untangle.
I'm pretty exhausted right now. I'll need my next day off to look at this,
which occurs in about 10 days. Maybe someone else will have the stamina to
sort through this before then.

I had a similar problem before, I don't know wheather your case is the same
as the one I had.
What I did was simply go to Tools-Email Account-Directory-view and change...
then click change, and choose the First Last or File As once to "force" the
contacts to file under one rule first.
I don't know if this helps or not but this simple method ended up solving my
problem.

That only affects the Outlook Address Book, which was not his question.

I need to add that the setting in Tools/E-mail Accounts/View or Change
Existing Directories or Address Books/Outlook ddress Book/Change is set to
"Show names by First Last" but does not solve my problem.
