Files writable after CD writing

Has anyone heard of this one:

I am writing some read-only files to cd:

1) copy files
2) paste onto cd drive
3) choose write files to CD

After I have written the files all the original files'
read-only property has been turned off!!!
(After step 2 they are still read only).

This shouldn't be happening.

I agree, when you write files that are not read only to CD (not CR-RW or
CD-R in packet writing mode) they change to read only. Copying files to CD
that are read only should stay read only. Are you using XP's built in
writing feature?

Once the CD is finalized, the files are read only, by the nature of the CD.
Did you ever try to delete a file from a finalized CD? It can't be done.
Therefore, they are read only, whether they say so or not!

Note that the XP inbuilt burning is *not* a packet writing mode. The
resulting sessions can only be erased by erasing the disk as a whole, so
individual files burned that way are inherently read only
