hello..question for you all...

I'm running xp home edition (sp1) and every so often I have problems
deleting files using windows explorer.

To the best of my recollection it's always some form of media file (MP3,
avi....) but when I go to delete it using either just del (to the recycle
bin) or shift + del (permanent) a dialog box pops up saying it can't delete
the file because it's being used by another program. Which it is not.

To make sure it's not being used I've even rebooted the computer and tried
again and it still does the same thing. Then other times when that happens
it'll tell me I can't delete the file and I try again 1 second later and it
deletes just fine.

To get around this I generally goto the dos command prompt and delete it
manually, but I'm sure there's a cure out there for me

Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks

Any ideas?

thanks I'll check it out

BigStar,

You can download a simple utility that will tell you what process has a file
open (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/handle.shtml). I would
also recommend you run scandisk on your hard drive(s).

I hope this helps,
