Files in temp folder

I have downloaded the latest beta and it's up and running
fine in my XP system. I have a question about several
files that can't be deleted from the temp folder. Are
these files part of the program and normal to be in there
all the time? It seems at each boot, I get a new one.
Drop down says they can't be deleted as they are in use.
Can anyone please shed some light on this for me? I need
to know if these files are supposed to be in there and as
such can't be deleted/
Thanks much

Could you shed more light on what type of files these are? What are the
extensions? The could be system files.

I'm sorry. I fully realize that I should have written
down the file names and extensions before posting here.
What happened was I ran the program with good results,
but because I'm testing software that requires a clean
system, when I couldn't delete the files from the temp
folder. I uninstalled the Antispyware program to find out
if the files were associated with it, which they were. In
my haste, I forgot to write down the file names before
doing this.
I posted here in the hope that if the files were normal
for being there in the temp folder, someone would know
this and verify that all was ok with them.
Anyway, thank you for answering. I'll simply monitor the
group and hope that someone picks up on the subject.
Thanks again

Microsoft AntiSpyware normally keeps open one or two files in the
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp\ directory (which is normally hidden and
not viewable by Windows Explorer unless you change the Folder Options to
view Hidden directories), and forgets to delete them when it closes, So
this Temp directory fills up with orphaned files. The file names are of the
form

~DFxxxx.tmp

where x is any hexadecimal digit.

You can safely delete any file of this form in the Temp directory. The one
or two files that are in use and cannot be deleted are safe to leave, and
you will be able to delete them after the next Windows restart.

Thank you Robin. That's exactly the answer I needed.

The ~DF* files appear on all my machines and there are always some that
can't be deleted.

I see Dudley from the Simming world raised a good point re
these temp files.
Is it that all DF????.TEMP are connected with this beta
antispy?
In WINXP TEMP, I have 611 of these little b?????s taking
up 91MB - none go when I do a disc clean. Cant open them
or anything. They grow in number by the day.

No. I got them before I installed MSAS. I think some are from Office.

Feel free to just delete them at a command prompt. When I do this, all but
about two of them go away. I've yet to see any ill effect of removing items
in the TEMP folder.
