files in tasks

I like to have files stores inside my task notes. Specifically, I like to
have tables with grid cells assigned to files (and corresponding row cells
explaining status and other information). I seem to have mixed luck with
attachments to appear. Rather, sometimes they appear, with icon and name,
and open fine. Other times, I will have the name of the file, seemingly a
blank space (though when I click on it I see the outline of the icon block),
and double clicking or right-click:blush:bject:blush:pen will yield nothing. This
makes me think there is some 'phantom' copy of the file.

Have not found any rhyme or reason in terms of copying/pasting files and/or
grids with files from word into task notes (the latter of which i do
sometimes).

Any expert out there on the dynamics of this?

I'll suggest a different approach that will be more stable. Open the Task.
Use Insert | File | single click a file and select As Hyperlink (bottom
right corner of the window). Now you have a link inside the Task to a Word
Doc or Excel Spereadsheet where you have the table.

Another alternative is to use OneNote as it is more sophisticiated in the
way it handles tables and has Tasks as well as links to Contacts.

helpful ideas, and appreciated. Tell me...how does this affect others? One
of my main goals in this is to have others (most of whom don't have OneNote)
be able to go back and forth with conversation that is more structured than
the 'send a note and attached some files in random order' approach that MS OL
unfortunately is geared towards (or at least that's how most people us it).

I am ultimately trying to quickly get up to speed on either/both of MS
Office Live or Google Apps, to see if there are some solutions there, wherein
I can set up pages that are related to specific projects, and have people put
files up, edit, etc., all while also having conversation along with those
files.

Not sure if my frustration points are clear, but am happy to elaborate. In
a nutshell, though, I am overwhelmed with emails, attachments, tracking which
attachments are just forwards and alread in my inbox, which are edited, and
therefore require attention, etc.

go to www.microsoft.com and have a look through the OneNote information.
They also have an actve newsgroup (like this one). ON can be shared very
easilly and is a great place to deposit data of various types eg a Project
Team's docs, reports, to do lists.
