Files creation hours change when copied from one machine to another

I just stumbled unto a very annoying phenomena: I noticed that files
copied from one XP machine to another XP machine (via Wifi, but this is
certainly irrelevant) get a creation hour changed by one hour. for
instance, a file created at 9:12 pm gets registered on the machine where
it is copied as created at 10:12 pm. This is a major nuisance in trying
to synchronize directories. Anyone has an explanation and a solution?
The two machines clocks are exactly set in the same way and match to the
second.

Hi,

Curious - check time zones as well? Both have the same daylight savings
either enabled or disabled as well?

Yes, absolutely identical settings... Even more confusing: files with
eml suffix get copied correctely (some might have the same behavior, I
did not test suffixes one by one), others not...

Hi,

Hmm, check details in regional settings?

I should may be add that one of these machines is a laptop that recently
traveling different time zones. But I insist all UI settings are
identical on both machines

Hi John,

Is it this laptop that is an hour off? Might sound stupid, but I'd try
changing the time to something totally different, reboot, then change it
back.

I noticed the problem copying from my desktop to my laptop and since the
laptop is, of course the one which traveled thru time zones, I tried
changing as you suggested to a different hour.

The problem seems to have gone away (knock of wood...). It is hard to
say if this did the trick: since I changed hours in the Bios (to make
sure the change was taken into account at the "hardware" level which
implied rebooting (I rarely reboot my laptop).

My suspicion is, the problem has something to do with going into and out
of stand-by. Why the one hour difference? Mystery. I will have to keep a
look on this and try to narrow down the problem which caused me to mess
up my directories in the synchronizing process. No pleasant since I now
lost track of which files are actually newer than others...

It appears that the file extension phenomena is more or less random as
opposed to what I initially thought and is not necessarily a factor.

Any further thoughts will be welcome, it is hard to believe this did not
happens to other users...

Hi John,

No other thoughts, seems like a curious oddity. In any case I'm glad it's
working right again.
