Files are on Hard Drive but don't show????

While trying to install Windows XP without success, I notice that the file
system is completely gone. Drive doesn't boot and when I put the drive into
another computer as a slave, and explore the drive it looks like it was
totally erased, however, I know the files are there. If I do a properties
of the drive it shows 2/3 full of files. They just aren't recognized.
Isn't there just something missing that shows the file structure tree? What
can I do now??
Any help would be appreciated.

On a different tack, please read
"Access is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder
http://tinyurl.com/lknp
"This issue occurs because the security ID for the user has changed.
Although you use the same user name and password, your security ID no longer
matches the security ID of the owner of the folder that you cannot
open....you may no longer have permission to open the folder after you
complete the following steps: . Before you install Windows XP Professional,
you change the actual location, or target location, of the My Documents
folder to another volume..You format the primary partition. .You install
Windows XP Professional."

In addition, you have an unbootable machine.

To prove or to refute this theory, I would carry out the steps as indicated
in the article using the working computer. If this is successful, then you
put this HDD, or better still a new HDD, back to the first machine, and
check out the hardware: RAM, fans, power supply, motherboard, graphics
card, and not forgetting the HDD itself. There are many articles available
showing you how to proceed.

Good luck.

Bee.
