It used to be that if I set a certain folder's file
veiwing properties that it would retain those settings.
(i.e., thumbnails, tiles, icons, list, details) Now i have
to reset the file veiw everytime I open a folder. Is there
a setting that can fix this?

Go into a folder and set it the way you want, then
click "tools" on the toolbar, go to >folder options<
click the view tab and click "apply to all folders". That
should do the trick. Wayne B.

I've been having the same annoying problem with folder settings. You can set all folders to the same view, but then you don't want them ALL to look the same! I set all folders to a default, then changed the settings of some, but find that certain ones - e.g. My Documents, My Pictures and others - keep reverting to the default, or even come up in random sizes and views each time I open them [never had that trouble with Win98 ;-( ] As yet no-one's come up with a solution

So I'm open to suggestions!

Try this: Open any Windows Explorer window and select Tools > Folder Options
View tab. Place a checkmark in 'Remember each folder's view settings.'

Thanks Tom, but I did that from the start, and some folder settings still keep changing. My XP Home seems to have a mind of its own! With hundreds of folders, most of which have the same view settings, I thought the easiest thing to do was set them all the same, then change a few, like I used to in Win 98 without problems
I may try resetting all folders, set a different default view, then spend half of Christmas changing each one!
Another thing that bugs me is whenever you rename a folder, the view settings revert to the default ;-

I'll find a solution one day
