Ok i got a random file (Dont remember where it came from) on my desktop in
WinXP Home Edition. The file name is: "CA2J05OP". I dont want this file. I
never created it. I can not do anything with it though. when deleting it i
get the following message: "cannot delete file: cannot read from the source
file or disk". If i do anything with the file i get that message. the file
has nothing in its source code. the size of it is 0 bytes. I could not get
rid of it in safe mode, msdos, knoppix or any other program. There is no sign
of it in the regeresty either. I can not hide the file or make any changes to
it - same error as above. Its just getting annoying. I called HP tech support
and thier answer was "take a screen shot of it...your probably the first with
this problem" and then "change your background so the file blends in". Please
help. Thank you

Does it show up on other accounts?

If not then you can consider treating it like a corrupt profile which is a
lot simpler than what you may be facing...

I would like to know if the person was ever able to get rid of the
pesky file. I also have a file that I do not know where it came from,
and get the same error messages as listed below, and have tried every
angle I could think of, including several software programs that
supposedly would delete any file. I may try the 'corrupt profile'
fix, but am leary about trying that angle.

Please let me know if anyone found a good fix. Thanks

Snipped but link included:

On some rare occasions it is actually due to a disk error that simply isn't
fixed normally so before you go ahead and try the corrupt profile link (I've
done the process there a GREAT number of times on many PCs belonging to
myself or clients and it is pretty painless - it only LOOKS complicated but
really it's a very short and easy process) you can take a look at a complete
check disk and defrag.

Take a gander here:

Chkdsk, the reality:

As for defrag (after chkdsk) you should be able to figure that out on your
own. ;)
