file type changed from "file folder" to "file" in XP Pro

I dont know how it happened but a very large folder
changed file type from "file folder" to "file". This
folder contains sub folders, word docs, mp3, all kinds of
stuff. Over 15 gig of stuff. Since this change has
happened ( yesterday night ) it doesnt appear that the 15
gig has freed up. It doesnt seem that the data is lost.
The "file" size now reads 256K. Can the file "type" be
reverted from "file" back to "file folder" and the data
still within?.

Hmmm - I don't know how that can happen. Do you have good antivirus software
(updated0 and a firewall? Have you run a full AV scan? Got anything in your
system event logs?

I run Norton AV and Zone Alarm firewall. I havent checked
system logs. I was too busy freaking out. I'll try that
tonight.
